Governor Ned Lamont announced that starting April 1st, the Connecticut Gas Tax will be suspended until June 30th. Additionally, bus fares during this period will be suspended during this same time period. The free bus fares applies to all GWTD services.
Lamont said ” We are taking steps to provide some relief to consumers as they face rising prices due to a number of international dynamics and market instability that go far beyond our state… I am determined to use every tool available to provide relief for our residents.”
UPDATE: An announcement which extends the suspension of statewide bus fares has been extended to December 1st. The Connecticut Department of Transportation announced this extension on May 19. Like the previous free fares, this applies to all ADA Paratransit services within the state.
SECOND UPDATE: The free bus fare has been extended again through March 30, 2023, as detained in this publication.
